Sting Ray Corvette
For 1963, the Corvette Sting Ray body and chassis were completely redesigned. This Corvette Sting Ray was the first time a coupe body was available too. A center window split on the coupe roof divided the rear glass creating a “split window” that was unique to this year. The new chassis featured an independent rear suspension with a single transverse leaf spring.
Four wheel disc brakes were introduced in 1965 as standard equipment. The system included four-piston caliper assemblies at each wheel.
The big block engine was introduced in 1965 as a 396ci / 425 hp option. In 1966, the big block engine grew to 427 cubic inches while 425 horsepower remained.
The very rare big block L88 427ci / 435 hp engine option appeared in 1967 on 20 units.
Total C2 Corvettes produced were 117,964 with 72,418 convertibles and 45,546 coupes.
