The 1957 Corvette was the first car
ever to combine fuel injection with a four speed manual transmission.
Engine displacement increased to 283ci and the most powerful option
engine developed 283hp one horsepower for every cubic inch! After
winning a few major races in 1957, sales for the year jumped to
a total of 6,339 units, up from 3,467 for 1956. In 1957, Zora
Arkus-Duntov officially became chief of Corvette Production. The
first Corvette club was organized. |

Chevrolet also introduced a special brake and suspension
package geared toward the growing weekend racers. The RPO 684
code included stiffer rear springs and shocks, a larger front
antiroll bar, quick-ratio steering, metallic brake linings, finned
drums, and complex brake ducting. In 1957 this propelled the Corvette
to its second consecutive SCCA B-Procuction title. |

Many consider 1957 to be one of the best styling
years because of its agressive looks and lack of decoration. They
also were the first Corvettes to be world class contenders and
are at the top of the list of many collectors. Because of the
more expansive option sheet and racing legend, many collectors
enthusiastically are in searching for that prized 1957 Corvette. |
